An unspeakable tragedy has struck Cyprus as a young couple and their three young children were burned alive after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Agios Nikolaos, Limassol.
Police arrived at the scene immediately, but attempts to enter the house where the family lived were unsuccessful. Residents of other apartments in the building managed to escape in time before the fire spread.
However, the 35-year-old father, 33-year-old mother and their three children aged 7, 3 and 2, who lived on the second floor, did not make it.
After the fire was extinguished, the bodies of the unfortunate family were discovered. The scene was surrounded by Police and Fire Department forces, who arrived with three vehicles and a hydraulic platform. Despite superhuman efforts, the fire had spread.
Part of the house, according to the Fire Department, is built with frame and masonry and part with plasterboard. The causes are being investigated in cooperation with the Police and the Electromechanical Service.
It is suspected that the cause of the fire may have been a possible electrical problem.
