Vatican Update: Health Status of Pope Francis?

Pope Francis experienced a “peaceful” night and rested well during his hospital stay, according to a statement from the Vatican.

In contrast to previous updates since the Pope’s admission to the hospital on February 14, the Vatican did not disclose details about whether he had been active or had breakfast.

The 88-year-old pontiff has been hospitalized for over a week as he undergoes treatment for double pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.

On Saturday evening, the Vatican reported that the Pope was in critical condition following a prolonged “perfection” crisis that necessitated a high level of oxygen. He also received a blood transfusion after tests indicated thrombocytopenia, which is related to anemia.

Medical professionals stated that his prognosis remains “reserved.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Vatican announced that the Pope would not officiate the second daily prayers for the second consecutive week, noting, “The Pope rested well.”

Since becoming the leader of the Catholic Church in 2013, Pope Francis has the option of preparing a written sermon for someone else to deliver during the Angelus on Sunday (today).

There is widespread concern about the Pope’s declining health, prompting speculation about a potential resignation, although the Vatican has chosen not to comment on the matter.
