Russia’s foreign minister has dismissed discussions regarding a peacekeeping force in Ukraine following a potential ceasefire as “empty talk.”
In statements made in Doha, Sergey Lavrov criticized the proposal recently put forward by Britain and France as an attempt to escalate the conflict, labeling it a “scam” designed to enable Ukraine to rearm.
He claimed that such an initiative would pull Ukraine further into NATO and “completely undermine” the rights of Russian speakers within Ukraine, as reported by Sky News.

US President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that he had directly asked Russian President Vladimir Putin about the possibility of a peacekeeping force being deployed in Ukraine. Reportedly, Putin responded by saying he had “no problem with that,” which starkly contrasts the Kremlin’s previous stance on the issue.
When confronted with Trump’s remarks at a press conference, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed skepticism, referencing earlier statements that deemed such a move “unacceptable” for Moscow.
Russia and the United States have engaged in their first talks on the Ukraine situation and are scheduled to meet again next month.
