Pope Francis remains in an unstable condition following a hospitalization of over two weeks due to bilateral pneumonia.
Recent reports indicate that he experienced a severe respiratory crisis, which caused a sudden decline in his respiratory health. In response, medical professionals performed bronchial aspiration and administered non-invasive mechanical ventilation, to which he has reportedly responded favorably.
Doctors are currently evaluating his status and expect it will take 24 to 48 hours to determine if there have been any further changes to his overall health. At present, the Pope is conscious and continues to receive care in the hospital as he works toward stabilization.
While the Vatican has indicated there have been slight improvements in recent days, additional time is required to fully assess his prognosis.
