Macron and Starmer Unite After White House Showdown with Trump and Zelenskyy
Following a heated confrontation between former President Trump, U.S. Senator JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have joined forces. In a recent address, Macron stressed that Europe must prepare to defend Ukraine independently of U.S. support, especially under Trump.
“I hope the U.S. will stand by us, but we must be ready if they don’t,” Macron declared, highlighting the ongoing Russian threat. He urged European nations to enhance their military capabilities, stating, “We must equip ourselves to deter potential attacks.”
Macron underscored the need for continued support for Ukraine until a lasting peace is achieved. He echoed Starmer’s earlier comments regarding European troop deployment if necessary, stating, “Our forces will be there to ensure peace after a signed agreement.”
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Macron’s leadership, emphasizing that peace must not come at Ukraine’s capitulation and should include solid security guarantees. Despite ongoing tensions and challenges in U.S.-Ukraine relations, both leaders aim to maintain strong ties with the United States while ensuring the security of Europe and Ukraine.
