Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up About the “Brutal and Incredible” Reality of Motherhood

Jennifer Lawrence is getting real about how motherhood has reshaped her life—both personally and professionally.

While attending the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to promote her new film Die My Love, which explores postpartum struggles, the Oscar winner shared candid insights about raising two children with husband Cooke Maroney.

“Having children changes everything—your whole life,” Lawrence said during a May 18 press conference. “It’s brutal and incredible. They factor into every decision: Will I work? Where? When?

The Hunger Games star, who is also mom to 3-year-old son Cy, admitted that motherhood has deepened her emotional range as an actress.

“I didn’t know I could feel so much, and my job relies heavily on emotion,” she explained. “They’ve opened up the world to me—it’s like everything is more sensitive, raw. They’ve changed my life for the better and transformed me creatively.”

With her signature wit, the 34-year-old joked, “I highly recommend having kids if you want to be an actor.”

Though Lawrence rarely discusses her children publicly, her latest reflections mirror what she told Vogue in 2022 after Cy’s birth: “The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my life had started over. My heart expanded in ways I never knew possible.”

That love, she admitted, also comes with anxiety. “Now my husband and my kids are just… out there in the world,” she quipped. “One day, he’ll be a reckless teen behind the wheel, and I’ll be lying awake thinking, Who sleeps at a time like this?
