Social Networks and Artificial Intelligence Platforms Pose Growing Risks to Children’s Mental Health
The World Health Organization has raised concerns about the increasing impact of social networks and artificial intelligence platforms on the mental well-being of children and adolescents. Based on numerous studies, the WHO highlights a clear link between excessive use of social media and the emergence of health issues such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem among young people.
Experts also warn that children and teenagers face additional risks, including exposure to online bullying, unrealistic beauty standards, content promoting self-harm, and harmful advertising. In response to this concerning trend, the WHO urges countries to take urgent action. It recommends prioritizing digital well-being as a national public health issue, empowering health professionals to guide safe technology use, and implementing measures to regulate commercial interests that may exploit or harm young users.
