Months after their highly publicized engagement, Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence quietly tied the knot, Eddie Murphy announced on Thursday’s (May 29) episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.
“Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago,” Murphy shared with his Dreamgirls co-star. “They went off… Everyone was planning a big wedding, but they decided they wanted something quiet, just the two of them.”
When asked about becoming family with fellow comedian Martin Lawrence, Murphy added, “Yeah, we’re in-laws now. And he doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding anymore.”

Lawrence had previously expressed his willingness to cover the wedding costs, not only because he is the father of the bride, but also because Murphy has already paid for several of his other children’s weddings.
“Lawrence told Sherri Shepherd in January, ‘Eddie said, ‘Naw, naw,’’ when describing Murphy’s refusal to cover the wedding expenses. ‘He told me I had to pay for the last six weddings because Eddie has a lot of children. So he said, ‘You’re paying for this one.’ I don’t have a problem with it.”
He described his new son-in-law, saying, ‘He’s very relaxed and easygoing—much like his father. Calm, cool, collected, and just a really cool young man.’ Below, see Martin’s thoughts on the marriage.
Jasmin Lawrence, 29, and Eric Murphy, 35, revealed their relationship in 2021, and the couple officially got engaged in November 2024.
