Doctors “sound the alarm”! Paracetamol – the new dangerous challenge on Tik-Tok.
A dangerous challenge is appearing on the TitTok platform that targets young people who dare each other to take high doses of the painkiller paracetamol – often with fatal consequences.
“As strange as it may seem, paracetamol poisoning is the most deadly drug poisoning. Even small doses of 1 to 15 tablets cause liver damage, while poisonings with over 50 tablets often end in death even during intensive care,” recalling that every year, 30% to 50% of acute liver transplants in the US and Europe are performed due to poisoning with this drug.
But, even if poisoning occurs, he recommends taking measures and seeking medical help immediately, as according to him, seconds can sometimes save or cost young people’s lives.
A Swiss media article titled “TikTok ‘paracetamol challenge’ worries Swiss doctors” has also been circulated, stating that several cantons in western Switzerland are warning against the “Paracetamol Challenge” that is currently rampant on social media such as TikTok.
According to Swiss media, health authorities in the cantons of Fribourg, Jura and Vaud warned the population on Thursday about the dangers of this practice. Pharmacies have been called on to be more vigilant when selling this drug to young people, the cantons announced.
Paracetamol is one of the most widely used painkillers in the world. The active ingredient is found in numerous medicines such as Paracetamol-Mepha, Dafalgan, Panadol, Neocitran, Algifor and others.
