Donald Trump makes history as first sitting US president to attend Super Bowl

Celebrities including Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Sir Paul McCartney and Bradley Cooper were among the biggest sporting events of the year in the US – the Super Bowl – after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.

But it wasn’t just the stars of music and acting who were among the crowds to watch the American football spectacle at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Donald Trump made history by becoming the first sitting US president to attend a Super Bowl.

Cheering on her boyfriend Travic Kelce, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, was Taylor Swift.

Later, Trump humorously said that the only one who had a harder night than the players was Taylor Swift, writes skynews.

Swift had previously supported Trump’s rival, Kamala Harris, in the 2024 presidential election.

When Trump entered the stadium, he was greeted with cheers from the crowd.

He watched the Super Bowl with his daughter Ivanka and son Eric. The first lady, Melania, did not attend.

During his first term in office, Trump reportedly criticized the National Football League (NFL) and its members after black players knelt during the U.S. national anthem to draw attention to racial injustice.

Stars in the stands included Taylor Swift, Jay Z, Paul McCartney, as well as Hollywood stars Adam Sandler, Paul Rudd, and Kevin Costner.

One of the most famous parts of the Super Bowl is the halftime show, which this year was headlined by rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Tennis star Serena Williams made a brief appearance as a dancer.

There were about 80 Super Bowl advertising spots, some costing a record $8 million for 30 seconds.
