A campaign has been launched in Denmark to take the state of California from the US in exchange for President Donald Trump’s controversial offer to take over Greenland.
The “Denmarkification” campaign is reportedly aiming to raise $1 trillion to take over the state.
The campaign’s website listed California’s benefits, noting that the Western US state has 300 days of sunshine a year and significant technological investment.
The campaign also said it would rename Disneyland “Hans Christian Andersenland,” after the famous Danish fairy tale writer.
The initiative was reportedly justified by saying that “Trump is not exactly the biggest fan of California” and “he would be willing to give it up for a reasonable price.”
The Danes, on the other hand, pledged to bring “the rule of law, universal healthcare, and evidence-based politics” to California.
Meanwhile, Greenland, a territory under Danish sovereignty since 1953, has attracted Trump’s interest due to its strategic location and vast mineral resources.
Tensions rose after Trump refused to rule out economic or military action to secure Greenland, claiming it was critical to the “defense of the free world.”
Trump has previously described possession of Greenland as an “absolute necessity” for U.S. economic security.
