Former Biden Official Claims White House ‘Gaslit’ Public on President’s Age
A former Biden White House official alleges that colleagues deliberately “gaslit” the public about concerns surrounding President Biden’s age and cognitive abilities. Michael LaRosa, who served as press secretary for Jill Biden, spoke at a seminar hosted by Puck reporter Tara Palmeri, highlighting the administration’s efforts to deflect media scrutiny regarding Biden’s mental fitness.
LaRosa noted that throughout the 2024 campaign, defenders quickly dismissed worries about Biden’s age, even as polls indicated many Americans felt he was too old for a second term. He acknowledged that the White House was aware from the beginning that Biden’s age posed a significant issue.
Tensions intensified following a shaky debate performance in June, which led to calls for Biden to step down. LaRosa criticized the administration’s handling of polling data, emphasizing that while favorable numbers were publicized, negative trends were downplayed.
Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lamented the party’s pressure on Biden to withdraw, describing it as shocking and hurtful, reflecting a damaging turn against a dedicated leader.
