Tom Cruise Praises Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler Following Success of ‘Sinners’
Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise recently expressed high praise for Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler after the success of their film Sinners.
While attending the NYC premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on Sunday, May 18, Cruise spoke exclusively with People, reflecting on his meeting with Jordan in London and sharing his admiration for both Jordan and Coogler. He highlighted Jordan’s talent, work ethic, and creative partnership with Coogler, calling the Creed star “enormously talented” and emphasizing his respect for the duo.
“It’s wonderful to see him,” Cruise said. “Really, he’s enormously talented, and what he and Ryan Coogler do together… he’s a great actor. He’s dedicated to his craft. I really respect him. I respect Coogler, and I love the films they make. It’s brilliant cinema — big, bold, and inspiring.”
Cruise also mentioned to Extra that he’d love to collaborate on a project with Jordan, praising his talent and potential.
Back in April, Cruise shared a photo outside a theater holding his ticket for Sinners and publicly praised Jordan and Coogler on Instagram, encouraging fans to see the film in theaters and to stay through the end credits for extra appreciation.
Jordan responded to the praise with a heartfelt message, saying, “I was too young to see the first Mission: Impossible in theaters, but now I get a chance to watch the final one… in IMAX!!!! Much love @tomcruise.”
Fans also had a chance to experience Sinners in the immersive IMAX format again for a limited time, from May 15 to 21, thanks to Warner Bros. The studio brought the film back following overwhelming positive response from audiences and critics.
“Audiences have spoken, and we listened,” said Warner Bros. Pictures President of Global Distribution Jeff Goldstein. “If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners. Ryan has delivered a film that resonates with fans who appreciate the craftsmanship behind creating a movie for this format, and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it — or see it again — in 70mm IMAX.”
Meanwhile, The Final Reckoning, believed to be the final installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, is set to hit theaters on May 23, featuring Cruise alongside Ving Rhames, Angela Bassett, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and more.
Looking back at the franchise’s long history, which began in 1996, Cruise reflected to People, “I did the best I could. It represents the efforts of everyone involved at that moment. I’ve learned a lot about storytelling in this genre, and I see what it takes to make these films work.”
