‘Everest Man’ from Nepal Attains 31st Summit, Making History

Nepal’s Kami Rita Sets New Record with 31st Ascent of Mount Everest

Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita has achieved a historic milestone by reaching the summit of Mount Everest for the 31st time, surpassing his own record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak.

The 55-year-old, who was leading a group of Indian army officials on the mountain, reached the 8,894-meter summit on Tuesday, according to reports from Telegraph.

“Kami Rita needs no introduction. He is not only a national hero in Nepal but also a global symbol of Everest itself,” stated Seven Summit Treks, the expedition organizer.

Rita first summited Everest in 1994 as part of a commercial expedition, and since then, he has climbed the mountain nearly every year. Remarkably, he completed two ascents within a few years, doing so in both 2023 and 2024.

His closest competitor for the record is Nepalese climber Pasang Dawa, who has summited Everest 29 times, with his most recent attempt just last week.

Rita has previously expressed that his climbs are driven by dedication and work rather than records. “I am happy for the record, but records are eventually broken. I am more proud that my climbs help put Nepal in the global spotlight,” he told AFP in May last year.
