Is It Possible for a Squirrel to Intervene During a Baseball Game?

Topps Releases Collectible Card Featuring Squirrel That Interrupted Yankees Game

Sports card company Topps is releasing a special collectible card highlighting an unexpected baseball star: a squirrel that stormed onto the field during a New York Yankees game against the Boston Red Sox.

The furry intruder caused a brief pause in play on Friday when it ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium during the first half and approached Yankees pitcher Max Fried on the mound.

Fried described the encounter, saying, “This is the first time it’s ever happened to me. My first reaction was, ‘Don’t do anything that’s going to embarrass you.’ I thought it was going to run around, but it came right at me and went into the little hole I made in the mound.”

Video footage from the game shows Fried and the squirrel gazing at each other, according to the Telegraph. Play resumed once the squirrel reached the foul zone, and it was last seen darting past the chain-link fence near the scoreboard area.

The collectible card, priced at $8.99, was already sold out by Monday.
