Displaced amid recent wildfires, Los Angeles resident returns home to find ‘an interesting guest’ in one of her spaces?

A Los Angeles resident who fled his home amid the recent wildfires says he returned to find a large black bear in one of his yards.

Samy Arbid, 41, was unaware of the “new resident” until utilities were called to restore power to the property after the Eaton Fire, the second-most destructive wildfire in California history.

The 240kg animal – nicknamed Berry – was too big to calm down and crawl away, so wildlife experts lured it with a “feast”, Arbid added.

The menu included ‘apples, peanut butter and a little chicken’, said the city’s environmental expert Kevin Howells.

It wasn’t long before Berry took the bait and was caught “gently”, although the process was ‘nerve-wracking’.
