Dwayne Johnson’s Emotional Farewell to His French Bulldog Hobbs: ‘We’ll See You Again’

“Dwayne Johnson and his family are grieving the loss of their cherished dog, Hobbs.

The 52-year-old actor shared the tragic news on Instagram on Tuesday, February 25, accompanied by a series of photos and videos celebrating the late French Bulldog. “RIP 💔 Hobbs,” Johnson began. “I’ve been in shock over this loss, but we are immensely grateful for every moment of joy he brought to our family. We are also thankful that he didn’t suffer long, as he quietly and bravely departed during the night.”

The former wrestler reflected on his choice of the song “What’s Going On in Your World” by George Strait as the soundtrack for his post. “Recently, there’s been so much that feels too heavy to discuss. Lonesome, lonely, heard it’s all the same,” he wrote. “This song resonates with me as I contemplate what’s happening in his new world, while I navigate mine. I may not understand how spirits work, but I hope he comes back to visit us occasionally so we can stir up some fun and laughter again. 🥃💔”

Hobbs was a familiar figure to Johnson’s fans, who followed his adventures through the actor’s social media. Johnson adopted the French Bulldog in 2015, alongside Brutus, another Frenchie puppy. Shortly after bringing them home, Johnson famously had to save Brutus from drowning after he fell into the pool. (Sadly, Brutus passed away later that year after ingesting a toxic mushroom.)

In 2019, Johnson even featured Hobbs—named after his character in the Fast & Furious franchise—in the spinoff film “Hobbs & Shaw.” “As producer of @hobbsandshaw, I thought it was fitting to actually cast my French Bulldog in our movie. Nepotism shmepotism 😉💁🏽‍♂️,” he joked on Instagram at the time. “Three years ago, we welcomed puppy Hobbs and his baby brother, Brutus, into our family. We heartbreakingly lost Brutus just months later. But this little guy, Hobbs, kept living his best life every day, and I’m so proud of his performance in our film.” He humorously added, “Plus, he left a steaming three-curler 💩 right in the middle of the set 😂🤦🏽‍♂️—the biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen and one tough little guy.”

Last year, Johnson brought Hobbs along for his GQ cover story photo shoot, and the dog made several appearances alongside him in the snapshots.”
