Scotty McCreery Fosters a Love for Country Music in the Next Generation
Former American Idol champion and recent Grand Ole Opry member Scotty McCreery is instilling his passion for country music in his young son.
Scotty married his wife, Gabi, in 2018, and the couple welcomed their baby boy, Merrick Avery McCreery, in October 2022. The name Merrick honors his maternal grandfather, while Avery pays tribute to Avery County, the family’s cherished home.
The “Five More Minutes” singer frequently shares heartwarming moments from his life with his son, affectionately known as Avery. From golf practice to car singalongs, the father-son duo is forming a beautiful bond that’s heartwarming to witness. Scotty has also drawn inspiration from fatherhood, releasing songs like “Porch” and “Love Like This,” which were written with his son in mind.
In a charming video shared on social media, Scotty and Avery can be seen in what looks like a home recording studio. With his sweet little voice, the toddler sings a recognizable line from George Strait’s classic 1985 hit, “The Chair.” The song reached #1 on both the US and Canadian country charts and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Additionally, CMT ranked “The Chair” as #24 on its list of the Top 100 Country Songs of All Time. The adorable video showcases Avery’s exposure to country music classics, reminiscent of Scotty’s own childhood when he listened to legends like Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Conway Twitty.
