Trump Opposed Israel’s Proposed Assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Reuters Says

US President Donald Trump Reportedly Rejected Israeli Plan to Assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, According to Reuters

Two US officials told Reuters on Sunday that President Donald Trump recently declined an Israeli proposal to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“One of the officials stated, ‘Have the Iranians killed any Americans yet? No. Until they do, we’re not talking about pursuing political leadership at all,’” Reuters reported.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that senior US officials have been in continuous communication with Israeli counterparts since Israel launched a significant strike on Iran in an effort to halt its nuclear program.

They indicated that Israeli forces had an opportunity to carry out the assassination of Iran’s top leader, but Trump reportedly intervened to prevent the operation.

It remains unclear whether Trump directly conveyed this message to Israeli officials. However, the President has maintained frequent communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

When asked about the Reuters report, Netanyahu addressed the matter in an interview Sunday with Fox News Channel’s “Special Report with Bret Baier.” He stated: “There are so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that.”

He added, “But I can tell you that I think we do what we have to do, we will do what we have to do. And I think the United States knows what’s good for the United States.”
