Denzel Washington’s role in “Gladiator II” directed by Ridley Scott received positive reactions from the audience.
In the film, Washington played the role of Macrinus, a former slave who became one of the most influential figures in Rome, trying to remove the emperors Geta and Caralla from power.
Due to his good acting performance, professional critics and viewers expected him to be nominated for an Oscar in the category ‘Best Supporting Actor’, but this did not happen.
In a new interview with the New York Times, the star revealed that he doesn’t mind not being nominated.
“I’m happy for everyone who’s been nominated, but I’m also happy with what I’m doing. I’ve been in the acting world for a long time, and at this age you have to accept some things. The beginning of wisdom is understanding. I’m getting wiser as time goes on, and I’m working on talking less and understanding more,” Washington said.
He stressed that he is delighted to have been given the opportunity to be a part of this film and that it is a special honor for him to play a role in “Othello”.
“I thought I was grateful because the day I was not nominated for an Oscar, I was playing a role in Othello on Broadway”, he says.
Throughout his acting career, Washington has won two Oscars: for ‘best supporting actor’ for the 1990 film “Glory” and for ‘best leading actor’ for the 2002 film “Training Day”.
