Will Smith’s Comeback Album Struggles to Find an Audience, Selling Fewer Than 300 Copies

Will Smith’s Comeback Album “Based On A True Story” Fails to Make an Impact

After a two-decade hiatus from the music scene, Will Smith has made his return with the album “Based On A True Story,” but his first musical endeavor in 20 years has been disappointing commercially.

The 56-year-old rapper and actor sold just 268 copies in its opening week in the UK, and the album did not make any impression on the Billboard 200 chart in the US, marking an unprecedented low in his music career.

Despite featuring collaborations with prominent artists like Big Sean, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, and his son Jaden Smith, the album failed to achieve the expected response.

Many viewed this musical release as an attempt to reclaim the spotlight following the shocking incident at the 2022 Oscars, where Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock during the ceremony. This moment led to Smith being banned from the Academy Awards for a decade, and his subsequent film projects, including “Emancipation,” faced disappointing box office results.

Nonetheless, Smith has no plans to step back from the industry. He has announced the release of two more albums within the year and is scheduled to embark on a tour across Europe and the UK. During this tour, he plans to perform both classic hits and new tracks.

Interestingly, the tour will take place in smaller venues, such as Scarborough and Wolverhampton, rather than in larger, more mainstream cities, a decision that has surprised some fans. However, Smith has vowed to deliver special performances filled with surprises and emotional moments for those attending this new chapter of his career.
