Amy Schumer Claims John Cena Was ‘Actually Inside Her’ During Film’s Intimate Scene
Comedian and actress Amy Schumer recently made a playful and provocative remark about filming a key scene with John Cena in the 2015 romantic comedy Trainwreck. Schumer, who played Amy, a commitment-phobic party girl, starred alongside Cena, who portrayed Steven, a dedicated gym enthusiast.
Their on-screen relationship culminated in a notably risqué scene, which both actors have discussed publicly. Schumer previously expressed her amazement at Cena’s physique, saying (per the Daily Star): “It’s a whole universe, that butt… It’s not even human. It felt like having a refrigerator on top of me.” She jokingly added: “I think it was probably harder for him. He had to, like, do something. I just did what I usually do when I have sex. Just lay there.”
She also shared a humorous regret: “You know what? I didn’t get to feel his balls. It’s a major regret of mine. Major regret.”
Cena, meanwhile, described filming the scene as ‘awkward’. In a 2015 interview with Conan O’Brien, he admitted: “It was awkward. And they wanted awkward, so we gave them awkward.” During a later appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Cena elaborated on the behind-the-scenes challenges.
He recalled how the production team briefed him that he would be performing an exaggerated comedic sex scene rather than traditional dialogue. Cena said: “Amy is an angel, she made the environment so comfortable. But when I got the part, they told me it would be a sex scene. They wanted me to do elaborate, crazy stunt sex, and all those lines I had? They said they probably wouldn’t use them — just the stunt sex scene.”
Despite his experience performing in front of crowds as a professional wrestler, Cena admitted acting in a sex scene was a different challenge altogether. He explained: “This is the thing — right now, you think it’s just us. No, there’s a whole world back here.” He described the filming environment: “Catering was right there, the sound tent was right there. There are so many people involved in making a movie. There’s nothing intimate about it. Nothing. So it’s really embarrassing.”
He added, “They literally told us to try to have the most awkward sex possible. With an audience watching, it’s a different experience. I don’t want to say it sucks — it’s just different than what you might expect.”
Schumer joked about the scene’s intimacy in a playful manner, saying during an Australian talk show: “Because he was actually inside me. Who am I to stop him?” Though clearly a joke, her comment added humor to the discussions about their onscreen chemistry.
Co-star Bill Hader, who was present during the conversation, chimed in: “Wrestlers, they’re not faking. When they’re wrestlers, they don’t fake!” Schumer responded with a laugh: “It’s real.”
Following the interview, Schumer humorously posted on her Instagram Stories, sharing a video of herself in bed with the caption: “John, how dare you.” She added playfully, “That sex scene meant a lot to me, and I was very into it. And I’m in love with you.”
Cena also revealed he was hesitant to tell his then-partner, WWE star Nikki Bella, about the scene beforehand. In an earlier interview, he admitted: “Nicole had every right to be upset because I didn’t tell her about it at first. I should have approached her about it from the beginning.”
Trainwreck remains available to stream on platforms like Now TV, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google Play Movie, YouTube, and Sky Store.
