Friendship is a very important part of every person’s life. Our friends are our allies, they are the family we have been with most of the time since our childhood. We may not be connected by the same blood, but we are connected by love, interest and essential care.
Like all relationships, this one also requires time, honesty, respect and concessions from each side. This is one of the reasons why some people find it difficult to build friendships, keeping this area closed in their lives. According to a survey conducted in 2023 by the Pew Research Center, 29% of Americans have only one or two friends, while 58% are considered to prefer loneliness to creating a friendly relationship.
The mistake that adults make in the field of friendship
And while it is scientifically proven that as people age, they lose close friends due to the fast pace of everyday life, at the same time they have a hard time making new ones. Social psychologist Johnathan Haidt openly blames technology for the crisis that people are facing in the field of friendship, stating that it is leading the world towards alienation, loneliness and depression. Loneliness is a very unpleasant emotional state that has shown a huge increase in society in recent years.
According to experts, adults who struggle to make friends are usually too focused on their own needs and refuse to make concessions or change their schedule to meet someone new. They are “comfortable” in this particular state and are drawn to the rhythms of their routine. This, therefore, is the mistake we must avoid. If we do not take a few steps back and find some free time, we will not be able to expand our social circle.
