Forgot Golf parked at the airport for a year, owner must pay 200 thousand euros

A gray Volkswagen Golf has been sitting in the parking lot of Berlin’s BER airport for more than a year, attracting attention due to its unusual history. It was removed today. At first glance, it seems that someone simply forgot about the car, but the situation is much more complicated – the owner of the car is a complete stranger.

The car with Hanoverian license plates was in a great location, right opposite the airport terminal. This parking lot is intended for short stays, where the first ten minutes are free, while an hour costs 23 euros. The daily fee is a staggering 552 euros, and the total debt of this abandoned vehicle has reached an incredible 200 thousand euros.

Inside the car, there are interesting details – a half-filled bottle of water on the passenger seat, protective tape hanging from the rear wiper and pieces of paper stuck to the windshield. All this adds to the mystery.

Who is responsible for the debt?

BER Airport confirms that they are aware of the situation, but responsibility for the removal of the car has not yet been clarified. Police claim that the vehicle is not on a public road, which shifts responsibility to the airport administration. On the other hand, bureaucratic complications prevent any quick solution.

It is possible that the vehicle was stolen and left in the parking lot, but the owner has not yet come out. “Whether the debt can be collected depends on whether the owner is identified and whether he has the necessary financial resources,” said the airport administration.
